  Studebaker / Oliver Initiative

The historic industrial core of South Bend is being given a face lift that will bring the area into the 21st Century. The project encompasses the former Studebaker and Oliver factories that were the heart of industry in this city for 100 years. Download the two-volume newsletter which explores the background on this exciting City initiative.

The City has completed the redevelopment activities in Phase 1 of the project and as a result we have land available for sale in the Oliver Industrial Park. The Park is currently home to Rose Brick & Materials, Inc. and Hill Truck Sales, Inc. We have development-ready sites available for light industrial and warehouse development. View the Oliver Indusrtial Park brochure.

Phase 2 of the Studebaker/Oliver project is now underway with the beginning of demolition at the former South Bend (Studebaker) Stamping Plant on Franklin Street. Our local public transit agency, TRANSPO, has partnered with the City to help clear the old dinosaur buildings to make way for industrial development and their new headquarters and bus maintenance facility. When Phase 2 is complete, over 2,500,000 square feet of derelict Studebaker buildings will be gone, replaced by an 82-acre light industrial park with new infrastructure and businesses.
