The Airport Economic Development Area, also known as Blackthorn, is an ideal location for new industrial, warehouse and business development.  Located on South Bend's far northwest side, the 3,500-acre economic development area provides immediate access to the South Bend Regional Airport, the Indiana Toll Road and the U.S. 31 Bypass.  The area's centerpiece is the Blackthorn Golf Course.

The City of South Bend has focused its efforts on stimulating future industrial, office and commercial investment.  By 2010, the Blackthorn Development Area is expected to be the center of industrial employment in Northern Indiana.
