City of South Bend has $500,000 for Brownfield Assessment and Cleanup Activities The City of South Bend has $500,000 available for brownfield assessment and cleanup activities within South Bend. These activities are funded by two grants that the City received from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
South Bend received $200,000 for environmental site assessments and is seeking applications for use of these funds. South Bend also has up to $300,000 for low interest loans to remediate brownfield sites. All locations for assessments or loans must be within the South Bend city limits and must meet EPA eligibility requirements. Applications will be prioritized and funds will be awarded to those sites with the highest redevelopment potential.
Owners and representatives of brownfield properties in South Bend now have a new source of financing to assist in the development of their abandoned or underutilized properties. These EPA grant funds have been awarded to the city to facilitate brownfield redevelopment, thus revitalizing our city and cleaning up our environment.
