- Recipe for Composting
- Ingredients:
- Organic Matter such as leaves, branches, grass and woodchips
- Air
- Water
- Microbes: Microscopic organisms capable of using the Organic matter as their food. These microbes are naturally present in organic matter.
- Directions:
Grind up organic matter into small sized pieces and pile it into a manageable pile. Add water and mix often to let air come into contact with the composting organic matter. The temperature will rise to over 140 F.
Keep missing the pile and let the microbes digest the organic matter as food. After several months the temperature will fall to around 70 F. This means the microbes are done eating and the organic matter is now composted.
The final composted material is a consistent soil like material that is an excellent fertilizer and soil conditioner for lawn and gardens, by composing, the organic material has been truly RECYCLED into a useful product and space at landfills have been saved.
