City of South Bend Taxi Cab Licensing & Inspections are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. & 4:00 p.m. at the following location:

• Central Services Division
  1045 West Sample St
  South Bend, Indiana  46619 

Driver Requirements:

• Criminal History Reports from each City you have lived in for the past 20 years.
• Driving Records from each State you have lived in for the past 10 years.
• Must possess a Public Passenger Chauffeur's License or CDL.
• Driver's license can only be from Indiana or Michigan, depending where you live, and address on license and application must match.
• Physical Form from your doctor stating you are in good health to drive.
• Application Fee of $5.00 and $10.25 upon approval.

• Note:  If you have had a Felony in the past 20 years, or a Misdemeanor in the past 10 years, you will automatically be denied.
• This is a yearly license that runs from June 1 through May 31.

Taxi Company Requirements:

• The building location must be in a commercially zoned area.  Please contact the Building Department at 574.235.9554 for zoning information.
• Company must own or control at least 3 vehicles and have them available for calls 24 hours a day.
• Vehicle Inspection costs are $55.00 per vehicle.
• A Company Annual Business License of $25.00.
